renkie de Jong missed the draw with Bayern Munich, but he should be fit to replace Donny van de Beek. Kasper Dolberg is pushing for a start after scoring in the last three league games, meanwhile – he has been a sub in both Champions League group games so far.

Ajax have bounced back from defeat to PSV Eindhoven with four wins and one draw in their five games since. The draw was away to Bayern Munich in their most recent Champions League game – Noussair Mazraoui cancelling out Mats Hummels’ opener – while in domestic competition they beat HVV Te Werve 7-0 in the KNVB Beker and won their last three league games to nil. A 2-0 win at Fortuna Sittard was followed by a 5-0 thrashing of AZ and a 4-0 defeat of Heerenveen. Kasper Dolberg and Hakim Ziyech have scored in all three of this wins, while Lasse Schone and Dusan Tadic also netted at the weekend.

Ruben Dias will miss the trip to Amsterdam after being sent off against AEK Athens last time out. Dias is serving a one-match ban, while fellow defender Cristian Lema – sent off in the subsequent league game against Porto – is out injured with an abductor muscle tear. Filip Krovinovic and Tyronne Ebuehi are both long-term absentees with cruciate ligament injuries. German Conti (suspended) and Jardel (injured) both missed the last league game, against Porto, but both will return with Dias and Lema out.

Benfica are unbeaten since losing to Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League group game – winning four and drawing one since then. Their second Champions League group game saw them beat AEK Athens with ten men – Haris Seferovic and Alex Grimaldo gave them the lead before Ruben Dias was sent off and the Greek hosts hit back, but Alfa Semedo won it for the visitors. Since then, they beat Porto 1-0 in the league with Seferovic scoring the only goal – finishing the game with ten men again when Cristian Lema was sent off – before a 3-0 cup win at Sertanense last time out.
